From the ride home from the hospital through the early-elementary years, your child will spend plenty of time in a car seat.  How will you know which one to choose?

The best car seat for your baby is the one that best fits your baby’s size AND can be properly installed in your vehicle.  We have a Car Seat Buying Guide with several articles to help you choose among the many options available.  Here are a few of the things you’ll need to consider:

  • Get a checkup.  You can have your child’s car seat tested FREE by a certified safety technician who will help you adjust an improper installation if necessary.  Search by state and zip code to find a testing center in your area.
  • Check the dates.  Did you know that car seats have expiration dates?  Usually those are around 6 years after the date of manufacture.  Look at the label on your child’s car seat for information.
  • Snug as a bug in a rug.  Make sure the harness straps fit your child snugly.  Loose straps do no good in a crash.  If straps are too tight over a jacket, loosen the straps or remove the jacket and cover your child with a blanket instead.
  • Not even for a minute.  Never leave your baby or child alone in a car.

More than 90% of baby car seats are installed incorrectly. A carseat specialist should always be consulted for your baby’s safety.
