Back in the late ’70s, there was no law stating that car seats had to be placed in the back seats of cars. My aunt had my cousin’s seat in the middle of the front bench seat of her seven-year-old Buick. (That car had seat belts for 6, but many more than that could pile in there if necessary!) The baby was seated between me and my aunt, right there in the front seat. And her car seat was little more than a plastic bucket with a metal frame and a mini-seat belt.
We were exiting a parking lot when the baby decided to take matters into her own hands. She grabbed the steering wheel and gave it a good yank. Fortunately, my aunt had quick reflexes and was able to bring the wheel back around before we plowed into a tree by the side of the road.
The back seat’s definitely the place for a baby to ride. And she’ll ride in comfort and safety in a car seat like this Britax Boulevard Click-and-Safe car seat. A convertible car seat that will fit your child up to 65 pounds, this seat has true side-impact protection and a special harness adjuster to help you know when the harness is fitted just right.
