Winkin, Blinkin and Baby-thoven
All three of my children were always interested in music. And right from the start, they each had their preferences. My oldest was hooked on a Sesame Street lullabye CD that featured James Taylor, Carly Simon and the Doobie Brothers. (Is it any wonder that he taught himself to play guitar as a teenager?)
My daughter’s taste always ran more to music that she could dance to. And she’s the one responsible for teaching her little brother the Cha-Cha Slide when he was no older than two. He was also a fan of Devo’s “Whip It” during his toddler days.
But he also discovered the wonders of classical music, thanks to Baby Einstein’s Baby Beethoven DVD. If he wasn’t dancing around the living room, he wanted “Baby-thoven” on in the family room. He didn’t much watch it, but he enjoyed the background music as he busily played with Matchbox cars and bristle blocks.
You never know what music is going to capture your baby’s attention and imagination. But exposing your baby to plenty of music is a wonderful way to help him learn and grow. That’s why even “archway toys” for infants have musical features.
