Recall – 1 Million Simplicity Baby Cribs

25 Sep

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is announcing today a voluntary recall with Simplicity Inc., of Reading, Pa., of about 1 million cribs. The drop-side can detach from the crib, which can create a dangerous gap and lead to the entrapment and suffocation of infants. CPSC is aware of two deaths in Simplicity manufactured cribs with older style hardware, including a 9-month-old child and a 6-month-old child, where the drop-side was installed upside down. CPSC is also aware of seven infant entrapments and 55 incidents in these cribs…..[read the entire recall here]

Crib Rock Couture – Tees that make nursery rhymes ROCK!

22 Sep

emialli_in_cribrock_sized.jpgHere’s a fun break from the ordinary department store t-shirts.  The Crib Rock Couture slogan says it all, “The tee that makes nursery rhymes ROCK! Word to your Mother Goose.” …I love it, and I love their products too. Tracy who’s the founder of Crib Rock sent me a couple of their tees last week for my daughters to try out (pictured).

When I first pulled the shirts out of the shipping box, I was struck by their softness. So I immediately looked for the label to see what the shirts are made from. Its 50% Supima cotton and 50% MicroModal. After I read through the articles about these materials I understand why the shirts are so soft.  Simply put, both materials are super soft and high quality which makes for a great combination for t-shirts.

With most shirt companies simply having products with quality construction and softness would be enough, but not with Crib Rock shirts.  They put a fun twist on all the classic nursery rhymes.  The two my daughter’s are wearing say:
(Pink shirt): Lil Miss Muffet … The Curds & Whey Tour… Drop it like it’s hot!
(Yellow shirt): Lil Bo Peep … The Wag your Tail Tour … Sheep are Bo’s Peeps!
While looking through some of their other shirts I came across what I think is my favorite. It says: Humpty Dumpty … The Wall Tour … Just the basic facts… Can you show me where it hurts?

For those living in colder climates, Crib Rock also offers thermal shirts. Again, really soft and comfortable with the same fun nursery rhyme twists.

Crib Rock shirts come in infant sizes from 3 to 18 months, and toddler and children sizes 2 to size 14. You can purchase them on the Crib Rock site and at retailers throughout the USA and a few retailers in Ireland, Japan and Australia.

One other thing I noticed on the inside label … “Made in the USA”.  Nice to see :-)

Now if I could find this same material used in adult size t-shirts I’d really be happy!

Replacement cushions for gliders, glider rockers and rocking chairs

18 Sep

bu-glider-sleigh-glider.jpgHave you been putting in the hours on the glider rocking chair?  After all those hours of rocking, nursing, feeding, burping and getting your little one to sleep, the glider cushions usually start looking a little worn.  Replacement cushions are a great way to make your glider look new again or match a new room decor. Since we’re often asked where to get new cushions I thought I’d put together a list of companies that offer replacement cushions for gliders and rocking chairs. If you know of another company, please post a comment and let us know.

Tips for new parents – Strollers with large canopies

12 Sep

Every morning I start my day with a walk around my neighborhood.  Sometimes I have only my youngest daughter and I’ll take my single jogging stroller.  Sometimes when my older daughter is not at school they’ll both go with me and I take the double jogging stroller.  The main difference between the two strollers (beside being single and double) is the sun canopy. My single stroller has a small canopy that retracts, but if the sun is not directly overhead it’s basically useless.  Since I walk in the morning, the sun is always low in sky and shines directly into my daughter’s eyes.  My double stroller has a nice big canopy that no only fully retracts to the closed position but also rotates all the way forward. So when I’m heading down the street and the sun shines right into my daughters’ eyes, they simply rotate the canopy forward and it blocks the sun for them.  When it’s just my youngest daughter she usually tries to get me to take the double stroller, but with just one child it’s kind of cumbersome to push around.

So my tip for new parents … When you purchase a stroller, select one that has a large, oversized canopy.  Your child will be happy you did.

Recalls – Mattel & Fisher-Price recalls

7 Sep

I’m a couple days late on this one, but there have been more recalls because of lead paint. Both Mattel and Fisher-Price have recalls because of excessive levels of lead used in the paint on their toys. The toys are the Big Big World 6-in-1 Bongo Band toys and Geo Trax Locomotive toys from Fisher-Price and Barbie Accessory toys from Mattel. Be sure to check out the recall pages which can be found here.
