Roger Williams National Memorial commemorates the life of the founder of Rhode
Island and a champion of the ideal of religious freedom. Williams, banished from
Massachusetts for his beliefs, founded Providence in 1636. This colony served as
a refuge where all could come to worship as their conscience dictated without
interference from the state. The Memorial is located on a common lot of the
original settlement of Providence and includes 4.5 acres of landscaped park.

friendly museum that hosts a big family arts
day on the last Saturday of each month
called "Free-For-All Saturday." Past winner
of Rhode Island's "Best Family Program,"
this free family event, which goes from 11
am - 4 pm, features a range of hands-on art
workshops, treasure hunts through the
galleries, and live performance. Themes
change from month to month - dragons, masks,
feathered friends, sculpture, just to name a
few examples - so kids and families can
always explore art in a new way.
