Dogwood Canyon Nature Park sprawls across the Missouri-Arkansas border, just south of Branson, MO. Activities include self-guided walking or biking tours, guided tram tours, fishing, horseback riding, kayaking, or relaxing overnight in a private log cabin.

The battle fought here on August 10, 1861, was the first major Civil War engagement west of the Mississippi River, involving about 5,400 Union troops and 12,000 Confederates.  A 4.9 mile paved tour road provides a self-guided auto tour. There are eight stops at significant points to the battle. There are five walking trails off the tour road, varying in length from one-fourth mile to three-fourth mile. A seven mile trail system for horseback riding and hiking is accessible from the tour road. Living history programs depicting Civil War soldier life, cavalry drills, musket firing, artillery demonstrations, Civil War medicine, and Civil War era clothing are available on Sunday afternoons Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Jefferson National Expansion Memorial consists of the Gateway Arch, the Museum of Westward Expansion, and St. Louis' Old Courthouse.  A typical visit includes a tram ride to the top of the Arch for a panoramic view of the St. Louis area; a screening of the film "Monument to the Dream" which details the construction of the Arch; participation in the new 70mm World Odyssey wide-screen theater, which shows films on a four-story tall screen; and a visit to the Museum of Westward Expansion.  Just two blocks west of the Arch, the Old Courthouse contains restored courtrooms, information on the Dred Scott case, and a museum charting the history of the city of St. Louis.

The park commemorates the life, military career, and Presidency of Ulysses S. Grant, as well as his wife Julia Dent Grant.  Begin at the visitor center for orientation to the site and reading the exhibits. Take a ranger-led or self-guided tour of the site. Children, ages 5-16, can become Junior Rangers.

Canoeing and floating in tubes are the most popular recreation activities at Ozark NSR. The rivers are considered to be Class 1 streams, which is the easiest classification used. Also, johnboating, fishing, horseback riding, camping, and picnicking are popular activities. Most hiking is done in the spring and fall. Horsepower limitations on outboard motors are in effect above the Big Spring Boat Landing (Current River) and on the entire Jacks Fork River within the park. The Most Photographed Building In Branson! Most people think California has had the worst earthquake, when actually Missouri holds the record. In 1812 an earthquake measuring more than 8.0 on the Richter Scale occurred at New Madrid Missouri. This earthquake made the Mississippi River run backwards for three days and made Church bells ring In Philadelphia! Our building reflects that odd event, and Ripley's .... Believe It or Not! ® in Branson has become one of the most photographed buildings in the world along with having some of the most unique and strange exhibits in the world.

The Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City was founded in 1982 by two Kansas Citians - Mary Harris Francis and Barbara Marshall. Located on the campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the museum contains twenty-four rooms filled with antique dolls, dolls' houses, cast iron toys, trains, and scale miniatures.

Shatto Milk Company is a small, family owned and operated, dairy farm located just north of the Kansas City metropolitan area. They invite you, your family, and all of your friends to visit them on their farm, take a tour or just check-out their country store.  On the tours you can see the baby calves (you may possibly get to bottle-feed one yourself), milk a cow; get a first-hand look at where our cows live, what they eat, and how they are milked; learn how our milk is processed; watch how the milk is packaged in glass bottles and how those bottles are washed before being re-used, and sample many of Shatto Milk Company's tasty products.  Check web site for hours and call ahead for tour reservations.

Summer - Family Vacation Hot Spots (Beaches, Lakes, etc.)

Lake of The Ozarks - With 1375 miles of shoreline this lake has all type of activities for families.  Fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, hiking, wildlife viewing and camping.  This popular waterway is about 50 miles wide with over 200 resorts, which make it easy to arrange for a relaxing vacation. Several commercial services provide various rentals. Lake of the Ozarks State Park lies at the far southeastern end of the reservoir, also be sure to visit Bridal Cave and the natural bridge.  The lake runs from just west of Warsaw to just east of Osage Beach.

Table Rock Lake - Fishing, swimming, boat rentals, cabin rentals, condos and camping. Located in the Mark Twain National Forest primarily between Eagle Rock and Branson, 45 miles south of Springfield off U.S. 65.

Stockton Lake - Fishing, swimming, boating and camping.  This large and popular lake is just southeast of Stockton Missouri, State Route 215.

Long Branch Lake - Fishing, swimming, water skiing and camping.  Scenic shorelines and excellent fishing. Just west of Macon, Missouri on U.S. 36.

Bull Shoals Lake - Large lake that is divided by the Missouri-Arkansas state line.  Mark Twain National Forest is on the far north edge. Fishing, swimming, float trips and camping is available.  There are 18 parks around the lake for public use, which have camping and picnic facilities. The lake runs west to Lake Taney Como and Table Rock Lake in Missouri. U.S. 65 on the Missouri State Line.
