Programs for Children at Vacation Resorts

Families planning a trip to a luxurious vacation resort normally expect beautiful rooms, fine dining, and recreational activities surrounded by exciting places to explore. For the youngest members of the family, more vacation resorts are offering activities and amenities suited for the pint sized vacationer.

Many vacation resorts are offering day programs for the youngest travelers to keep everyone entertained and engaged with the hotel and local surroundings. Most programs are geared for children somewhere between the ages of three years to twelve years of age. These programs allow children to participate in age appropriate activities with other kids the same age and allow parents to have some time alone.

Programs or day camps offer children the opportunity to participate in various physical activities such as swimming, nature walks, basketball, tennis, playing on the playground, and much more. These activities are dependent on what the vacation resort offers, time of the year, and local surroundings. The Coconut Crew Interactive Camp at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida offers snorkeling, treasure hunts, and Eco tours in addition to many other sports and recreational activities.

Other leisure activities include video games, ping pong, air hockey, and other indoor games. Many vacation resorts have arcades and entertainment and media rooms where families can view movies.

Children’s programs offer hands on activities to help children be creative and provide an educational offering that parents will appreciate. Arts and crafts activities are abundant in most programs. The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa in Koloa, Hawaii offers Camp Hyatt, a program with activities such as Palm Frond Weaving, Hawaiian Leaf Stencil Painting, and Hawaiian Shell Bracelet making. Educational classes about the local wildlife or environment will engage children to understand the beauty around them. The Grand Hyatt Kauai provides children the opportunity to meet one of the parrots that lives on site at the resort.

Some programs offer field trip activities to local amusement parks, children’s museums, and other child-friendly destinations. Children can enjoy the sights and sounds of the local community while in a safe atmosphere with their peers and professional counselors.

Parents with even younger children still have options when vacationing. Resorts like the Club Med Sandpiper Florida offer a program called “Baby Med” for children as young as four months to 24 months of age. These wee ones will benefit from professional care givers who will provide stimulating activities, meals, and nap times. In addition, this resort offers another program geared for children ages two to three years of age. This program gives toddlers an opportunity to play in a baby gym and participate in activities geared just for them.

It is important to note that most of these programs are offered for a fee in addition to regular resort costs. Parents should call hotel to confirm additional pricing and to check on availability as some resorts offer their programs seasonally.

Children’s programs at vacation resorts offer an opportunity for children to find enjoyable activities geared just for them. And at the end of the day, families can come together and share their incredible adventures for some excellent bonding time!
