Butterfly Mobile

Materials needed:

  • Plastic transparent report covers (various colors)

  • Paper, scissors and glue

  • Pipe cleaners

  • Fishing line

  • Wire coat hanger

This simple craft makes a great little mobile that you can hang inside or outside the house.

1.  Draw a butterfly that is about 2 inches wide on a piece of paper and cut it out.  Fold the butterfly in half, down the center so the wings are on each side.  You will use this butterfly as a template.  Place the folded part of the butterfly template in the fold of the report cover and trace the butterfly shape onto the report cover.  By using the folded part of the report cover the butterfly will have bent wings, so it appears the wings are flapping.  Repeat the above and make about 8 butterflies.

2.  With the remaining scrape pieces of report covers, cut small circles out and glue them onto the wings so that the butterflies have spotted wings.

3.  Wrap a pipe cleaner around each butterfly so that the ends come together at the front of the butterflies.  This will give the butterfly a little head and antennas.

4.  Take the metal coat hanger and twist the wide portion of the hanger into a figure eight or other shape.  Using the fishing line, tie the butterflies at different lengths hanging off of the hanger.

5.  Hang inside or outside your house and enjoy!
